CAMPUS BEREAVEMENT --
LOWERING OF THE FLAG

APPROVED BY ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL:     April 24, 1995

RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT:     Human Resources, 909/880-5138

Given the size of California State University, San Bernardino, in terms of faculty, staff, and administrators, there will be occasions when the campus experiences the death of an employee.

In addition to the administration of benefits for the deceased employee by the Benefits Officer and the floral expression of sympathy on behalf of the university, the university will acknowledge the death of a full-time permanent or tenured employee through the lowering of the flag to half-mast.  The death of an employee should be reported to the Human Resources Department as soon as it becomes known.  The Human Resources Department will contact the Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance.  The procedure for the lowering of the flag will rest with the Vice President for Administration and Finance.

The Office of the Vice President for Administration and Finance will notify the President of the situation and coordinate the lowering of the flag to half-mast with Public Safety on the day of the employee's funeral or the day of a memorial service, if one is held for the employee.
