APPROVED BY PRESIDENT EVANS:

RESPONSIBLE DEPARTMENT:
University Advancement, 909/880-5004
ACQUISITIONS COMMITTEE
As with all gifts, works of art must be
accepted officially by the executive dean for university relations acting for the
president. An acquisitions committee consisting of an art professor (appointed by
the dean of humanities), the gallery director, the director of facilities planning and a
representative of the university relations office is hereby established. The duties
of the committee will include:
reviewing works of art offered to the
campus and recommending their acceptance or rejection;
suggesting ways to acquire donated or
commissioned art;
reviewing and approving deacquisitions;
advising as to appropriate placement and
rotation of art on the campus.
For those cases in which art cannot be
accepted, the executive dean will inform the donor.
The preceding policies are in keeping with
and are an elaboration of approved university policies on the solicitation and acceptance
of gifts. The executive dean will convene the organizational meeting of the
committee.
LOANED ART
In order to enhance the appearance of the
campus and provide a showcase for student and faculty art, the following process is hereby
established.
Student art or other art on loan will be made
available to various offices through the art department. The department will acquire
loaned student and faculty work, keep an inventory and loan pieces to various offices for
twelve month periods. Each Spring, the art department will recall art work on loan
and notify interested offices of new art available.
Since the Oak Room and the Sycamore Room in
the University Commons are used to entertain special university guests and because these
rooms are secure, the art department will try to provide art work for these rooms first,
before works are offered to other offices.
This process will be coordinated by the
university gallery director.
